Water damage restoration is an expensive process. If your Monroe home has received water damage, you are going to have a lot to deal with. Before trying to tackle water damage cleanup on your own, we at Restoration 1 of Greater Charlotte want you to be aware of all the benefits that come with working with a restoration team, as well as the risks that come from DIY water damage restoration.
Most people do not recognize water damage is a dangerous situation. Even if the water damage does not look extensive, there can be many hidden dangers. One of the biggest mistakes homeowners make when trying to handle water damage on their own is failing to protect themselves when cleaning up the mess. From the type of water (clean, gray or black), to potential electrical shock, there are many factors when dealing with water damage that can be extremely harmful. It is important to get the mess cleaned up quickly, but going into it not knowing where the water source is from, without proper personal protective clothing and equipment, or without shutting off all power to the area can make you susceptible to harm.
Many DIY cleanup techniques provide a quick fix for water damage. When dealing with mold, there is no such thing as a quick fix. Because mold can go unseen, you may not even know that you are dealing with mold when cleaning up after water damage. Without the proper tools and equipment to detect and remediate mold, it can turn into a serious health problem. Mold can grow in as little as 24 hours after water damage has occurred, so any time you are dealing with water cleanup you should assume you are dealing with mold, and any time you are dealing with mold you should call in the professionals.
Even after surface water has been dried, water damage may seep beneath walls, under carpets and floorboards, and in other places you cannot see. Integrity of walls, floors, and ceilings may be compromised. Drying without dehumidification will keep the moisture that seeped into these areas trapped, and you may think the problem is fixed when its not. Without the use of commercial grade drying equipment and technology to detect moisture in places you cannot see, water damage will linger long after you think it has been removed.

(704) 741-7511Restoration 1, in my experience, is a terrific company! An old dishwasher was, I thought, the cause of a flood of water on the kitchen floor, so I bought a new appliance. The culprit turned out to be a mouse who’d bitten a hole in the outflow tube! To repair the damage to the flooring underneath I was referred to a company who gave me a huge estimate (which they refused to reduce), so I looked online and, thank goodness, decided on Restoration 1. They came the next day, studied the situation, gave me a reasonable assessment saving me several hundred dollars, and began the drying and repair work, ending with much nicer flooring. They were professional, were on time, nice to deal with, and I highly recommend them.
Had a burst pipe in the attic that leaked into a couple bedrooms, the hallway and into part of the kitchen and living room. When I called Todd at Restoration 1 he answered the phone promptly, was very polite and professional, and answered all my questions. It was a Sunday and he said he’d be there in about 90min but made it in closer to an hour. He and a co-worker worked until nearly 10pm on Sun night to take care of the worst of the water. He came back daily for several days to some minor final clean up and to check the progress of the fans and dry out of our house. He was always very professional and very easy to work with. He contacted our insurance and dealt directly with them for the billing. The only downside is that they only do the cleaning/drying…not the repairs. However, if I had water damage in the future I would not hesitate to use them again.
Let’s be honest, fire damage is something no one ever wants to think about. You’re probably all familiar with the fires raging in Australia. There are also those that hit closer to home, right here in the US. While both of these examples are quite a ways from Greater Charlotte, NC and are on a […]
In this crazy year, we are shocked at the wildfires in California wine country. According to Cal Fire, the Glass Fire ripped through 67,484 acres, badly damaging 31 wineries, restaurants and lodges. Even the vineyards are at risk; not only are this years’ grapes lost, the plants themselves might die. One fire might have financial […]
